When the text states that "...the french observer Alexis de Tocqueville wrote of America: 'What is generally sought in the productions of mind is easy pleasure and information without labor'." is showed that the author has studied this as well as provided it as logos in this passage. This quote can be used as ethos as well as logos.

In the text Todd Gitlin wrote, "When a neo-Nazi creates a World-Web site that maintains that Auschwitz was not a death camp,..." In this quote Gitlin appealed to the rhetoric device pathos, because he uses emotional terms to get across to the audience. Calling his audience names, will get them to react a certain way and make them respond.
